LAGENIO K9 vs COSMO JrTrack 5 SE: Quick Comparison

LAGENIO currently lists K9 with a 1.78-inch 368 × 448 AMOLED display, 5MP camera, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, 700mAh battery and a 48.5 × 40.9 × 13mm body. Its main features include voice and video calling, location services, Safe Zones, SOS, School Mode, Family Chat and Nio AI.

COSMO lists JrTrack 5 SE with a 1.4-inch touchscreen, 51.8 × 42 × 15.8mm dimensions, a 2MP front-facing camera, 8GB storage and IP68 water resistance. It combines communication, location tracking, School-Fi and its parent-control platform.

The Most Important Difference: Video Calling vs Texting

Both watches let children stay connected with family, but they approach communication differently.

JrTrack 5 SE is closer to a traditional phone when it comes to messaging. Children can use SMS/MMS with approved contacts and send text, photos, recorded video and audio messages. Voice-to-text and group messaging are also available.

K9 uses LAGENIO Family Chat rather than trying to reproduce a conventional phone-messaging system. Communication stays within a more controlled, parent-managed environment, with contacts managed through the LAGENIO App. Family Chat supports text, voice messages and photos.

The major difference is live video calling.

JrTrack 5 SE can take and send photos and recorded videos, but it does not support live video calls. K9 supports both voice calls and real-time video calls between the child and family.

That can be useful when a child needs help explaining where they are, wants to show a parent what is happening around them, or simply feels more comfortable seeing a familiar face.

A Larger AMOLED Display in a Slimmer Watch

K9's hardware also reflects its greater emphasis on visual communication.

It uses a 1.78-inch AMOLED display with a 368 × 448 resolution, compared with the 1.4-inch touchscreen used by JrTrack 5 SE.

A larger screen gives calls, menus, AI responses and everyday watch controls more room to work with.

More interestingly, K9 does not achieve that larger display by making the watch thicker.

K9 measures 13mm thick, compared with 15.8mm for JrTrack 5 SE. Based on the manufacturers' published dimensions, K9 is also slightly shorter and narrower.

Wrist size, strap fit and personal preference still affect comfort, but thickness matters on a device designed for a child's smaller wrist.

K9 also has a 5MP camera, while JrTrack 5 SE uses a 2MP front-facing camera.

Camera resolution alone does not determine final image quality, so we would not judge the watches solely by megapixel count. What matters more here is how K9 combines its 5MP camera, AMOLED display and live video calling into the same communication experience.

Nio AI vs a Parent-Controlled App Library

The two watches also take different approaches to what children can do beyond calling and location.

JrTrack 5 SE uses COSMO's App Station, where parents can choose from supported apps and content such as music, learning and entertainment options.

K9 instead includes Nio AI directly in the watch.

Children can use voice interaction to ask questions and explore topics without opening a web browser or borrowing a parent's phone. Nio AI also includes learning and creative features such as AI drawing and storytelling.

A child wondering why the moon changes shape, for example, can simply ask from the watch.

For families interested in learning, questions and creativity without turning the watch into a conventional app platform, Nio AI gives K9 a distinctive role beyond communication and location.

GPS and Location Features

Location is an important part of both watches, although the two systems are implemented differently.

K9 uses GPS, Wi-Fi, LBS, A-GPS and accelerometer-based positioning. Parents can check the child's location through the LAGENIO App and use features including Safe Zones and location history.

JrTrack 5 SE uses COSMO's HaloGPS system and also offers an Active Tracking mode for temporarily increasing location-update frequency.

Both approaches are designed to help parents understand where their child is. Actual GPS performance can vary depending on surroundings, satellite visibility, mobile-network conditions and other factors.

School Mode and School-Fi

Both watches include tools intended to reduce distractions during school.

K9 uses School Mode. Parents can set class periods during which selected functions are restricted, helping keep the watch focused on essential communication and safety during lessons.

JrTrack 5 SE uses School-Fi, which can combine scheduled school hours with location-based routines.

The difference is mainly in how the restrictions are triggered: K9 uses a straightforward scheduled approach, while COSMO can add location conditions to its school routines.

For parents, the practical difference is whether they prefer simple scheduled controls or a more configurable routine system.

Parental Controls

Both products are built around parent-managed communication rather than unrestricted contact.

With K9, parents use the LAGENIO App to manage contacts, location, Safe Zones, School Mode and other watch settings. Communication remains within a more controlled, parent-managed environment.

JrTrack 5 SE also uses approved contacts and adds controls around its texting, apps and routines. Parents can review JrTrack text conversations through COSMO's parent platform.

The distinction follows the communication design of the two products: COSMO provides controls around a broader texting and app system, while K9 starts with a more contained communication model.

SIM Choice May Matter More Than the Watch Price

One of the most practical differences between the watches is how cellular service works.

JrTrack 5 SE uses a built-in eSIM/FlexSIM and requires Cosmo Mobile for cellular service.

K9 uses a physical 4G Nano SIM and does not require a LAGENIO-branded mobile subscription.

Families can choose a compatible local carrier and a suitable plan with voice calling and mobile data. Compatibility depends on the K9 version, country, carrier and plan, so SIM compatibility should always be confirmed before purchase.

This does not mean K9 has no cellular cost. A mobile plan is still needed for cellular functions.

This can be particularly useful for European families who already have a preferred local operator or want to compare available mobile plans.

It is also worth looking beyond the initial watch price. A more useful comparison includes both the device and the cellular service you expect to use over the next year or two.

A Few Everyday Details Worth Knowing

Both watches carry an IP68 water-resistance rating. That is useful for everyday situations such as rain, hand washing and accidental splashes, but neither watch should be treated as a device for routine swimming, showering or prolonged submersion.

Battery specifications are difficult to compare directly. K9 has a 700mAh battery, while COSMO publishes an estimated 18–24 hours of typical use for JrTrack 5 SE. Battery capacity and actual runtime are different measurements, and daily battery life depends heavily on GPS use, cellular signal, calls and screen time.

JrTrack 5 SE also includes an optional 911 calling feature for the US. K9 provides SOS and parent-managed emergency contacts rather than the same dedicated 911 feature.

The answer depends less on how many features each watch has and more on what you want your child to do with it every day.

One useful way to understand the two products is to think about what each one is trying to be.
