No. Your child does not need their own smartphone, and there is no required LAGENIO subscription or long-term contract to use the K9.

The K9 is compatible with supported 4G Nano SIM cards with voice calling and mobile data. Parents use the LAGENIO App on their own iOS or Android phone to manage contacts, check location, set Class Mode and access parental controls.

The K9 works with a compatible physical 4G Nano SIM that supports both voice calling and mobile data. eSIM is not supported, and data-only SIM cards are not recommended.

For the most reliable experience, we recommend using a SIM issued directly by the mobile network operator itself, rather than an MVNO using the same network. Some MVNO SIMs may also work, but compatibility can vary.

For U.S. versions, a SpeedTalk SIM comes pre-inserted. Activation is optional, and you can use another compatible Nano SIM instead.

Parents control who can communicate with their child through the LAGENIO App. The K9 supports up to 15 contacts, including up to 3 emergency contacts.

Approved family members and trusted contacts can be managed by the parent, helping children stay connected with the people they know while limiting unwanted contact from unknown callers.

No. The K9 does not support third-party messaging or social media apps such as WhatsApp, and it does not provide an open app store or unrestricted web browsing.

The K9 does include Nio AI features and a few simple built-in puzzle games, giving children useful features and a little room for fun without the endless apps, social feeds and online distractions of a regular smartphone.

The K9 uses 5-way positioning — GPS, Wi-Fi, LBS, A-GPS and accelerometer positioning — to help parents check their child’s location in different environments.

GPS generally provides the best accuracy outdoors with a clear view of the sky. Indoors or where GPS signals are weaker, the K9 can use other available positioning methods to help determine its location.

Location accuracy can vary depending on the environment, network signal and positioning method. The watch must also be powered on and connected to a network for location updates to be available.

Class Mode helps reduce distractions during scheduled class hours. When it is active, calls, messages and other distracting functions are restricted so your child can focus on class.

Location tracking remains active, so parents can still check the watch’s location during Class Mode. Normal functions return when the scheduled Class Mode period ends.

The K9 supports 4G voice calls, video calls, NIO Call over Wi-Fi or 4G mobile data, and voice messages between the watch and the LAGENIO App.

The K9 has a 700mAh battery. Actual battery life varies with daily use, and factors such as GPS update frequency, video calls, screen time, mobile signal strength and other connected features can affect how long a charge lasts.

The K9 is IP68-rated for everyday water resistance and is designed to handle situations such as rain, hand washing and accidental splashes.

However, IP68 does not mean the watch should be worn in every water-related situation. We recommend removing it before showering, bathing, swimming or entering the sea, and avoiding hot water, steam and strong or continuous water pressure.

Soap, shampoo, salt water, heat and repeated water exposure can affect water resistance over time.

In simple terms: the K9 is designed for everyday splashes, but take it off before bathing, swimming or going into the sea.

Lagenio prioritizes data security and privacy. Access to manage the K9 through the LAGENIO App is parent-controlled, and additional family members must request access and be approved by the administrator.

We use encrypted servers, GDPR-compliant standards, and no third-party data sharing, ensuring your child's information remains protected.
